Market launch of “Moving Light”: A rotating LED lamp made by WALO - TL in cooperation with Ludwig Leuchten KG
Sophisticated mechatronics system made by WALO - TL offering impressive light effects
Ludwig Leuchten KG presents its new LED lamp “MOVING LIGHT” during the “Light+Building,” the world’s biggest trade fair for lighting and intelligent buildings in Frankfurt, Germany.
WALO - TL designed and built the new lamp as a prototype for the lamp manufacturer based in Mering, Germany. This innovative LED lamp is an engineered symbiosis of mechatronics and LED technology that offers impressive optical light effects via an inserted rotating grooved disk.
The technological challenge for WALO - TL was designing the disk drive mechanism in a very small space and at a very low noise level. The main attraction of MOVING LIGHT is its completely programmable interface. Based on customer specifications, almost all kinds of motion sequences and intervals can be programmed and then activated using a remote control. The product is to go into serial production and sale in the summer of 2012.

ISO 9001:2008 Audit a Success
After several weeks of preparation, WALO - TL was certified according to ISO 9001:2008 in February
The certification according to the ISO 9001 series proves successful implementation of a company-wide internal quality management system. WALO - TL had its audit on 26 January 2012 in order to allow its customers to benefit from the advantages of this standardization and the improved quality of all processes involved. This certification documents that we respect the following eight principles in line with our company philosophy:
- - Customer focus
- - Management accountability
- - Participation of all persons involved
- - Process-oriented approach
- - System-oriented management approach
- - Continuous improvement
- - Objective decision-making approach
- - Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Software Update for OS3 Splicers
Updated version with new features and bug fixes available now
Users of the OS3 splicer may request the updated software version 1.210 from WALO - TL from now on. This improved version includes new functionality and bug fixes:
User-visible changes
- The new accessory list was added to the help menu. The data (text, images) for the accessory list must be on the MMC.
- Surveillance of the splicers's protective glass (dirt) added to the software. The ratio of LED and camera brightness is checked against an internally stored value. A warning message will be displayed if there is too much dirt on the protective glass.
- A cleaver maintenance warning was added. If the endface angles are too high and at least one of the internal cleaver counters has exceeded its max. value a warning message is displayed: "change cleaver blade".
- Power save functionality was added. If the splicer is not in use for a defined period of time (i.e. 5 min.) it automatically does a power-down to save battery power. The time can be set by the user in the settings menu with the option "power save".
Problems that have been fixed
- The program parameters for MMF 62.5, MMF 50, and ClearCurve MMF were optimized to get better splice results with the new arc generator. The various time and current parameters for the arc generator were changed according to splicing test results.
- The program parameters for the SMF Video splice was optimized. The parameter "fiberfeed" was increased from 10.5 to 13.0 µm to get better splice results with high tolerance piezos
- Bugfix: a possible software crash during manual CDS splicing while doing z-positioning was fixed.

WALO - TL Begins Serial Delivery of Thermal Strippers for Corning Cable Systems
The Thermal Stripper OptiSpliceTM TS for the Telecommunications Industry Has Been in Serial Production Since Early December
As an OEM for Corning Cable Systems, WALO - TL was tasked with the serial production of the thermal strippers OptiSpliceTM TS. Corning had chosen WALO - TL based on their long-standing experience with precision engineering and electronics, in particular with highly accurate manufacture and assembly of components in the µ-range. These specialized skills are particularly important for the assembly and adjustment of the incorporated knives and guides, which require special know-how.
Customers in the telecommunications and optical-fiber industries use thermal strippers to remove the coating of optical-fiber cables. The defined heating of the optical-fiber cable and subsequent mechanical removal of its coating prepares the optical fiber for the splicing process. The device is suitable for all optical fibers specified for the OptiSpliceTM Ribbon and OptiSpliceTM one splicers: Single-mode, multimode and NZDS fibers, glass diameters 125 μm, coating diameter 250 μm (single fibers up to 900 μm), single fibers or fiber ribbons (2-, 4-, 6-, 8- und 12-fiber ribbons). The power source is a battery unit with 2 integrated lithium-ion batteries.
